K20A / K20Z CAMSHAFT

The newest engine in the Honda tuning community. The "K Series" is Honda's mass produced version of the roller rocker valve train assembly found in the S2000. Less friction, more rpm potential, faster action cam profiles...this engine has untapped potential. First introduced in the JDM Integra Type-R in 2001, this engine put out a respectable 220HP @ 8000 rpm straight from the factory (DC5). The K20A also sees service in the JDM Civic Type-R, using the same compression and cam profiles. The first USDM production model was the K20A2 found in the 02-04 RSX-S. Other engines featuring the same head configuration include the K24A2 (TSX) that features a 9.114" deck height, the K20Z1 in the 05-06 RSX-S that includes various JDM Type-R add-ons like cams, throttle bodies, higher compression and Honda's answer to the tuning crowd, the K20Z3 found in the 2006-up Civic Si.

Blue DC5




Tuning does not necessarily mean going over the top with paint and body work, a car can look as cool as you want it to, in the case of this Acura the owner Joshua Roman knew what he wanted to do on the surface a cool looking machine, underneath it is anything but that.

The suspension needed changing, how the car sits makes a lot of difference to the final product, but it starts here and he installed HKS Hipermax Coilovers for a stiffer ride.

A cool set of Ray Gram Lights at 17 x 8.5 fitted with 245/40-17 BFGoodrich sports tyres, the standard track rubber no matter where you are located.

With some adjustments to the body, making sure that body does not fits in the right places, and you have to say that it does with this one, the cars lines are not rubbed out to make it streamlined they are shaped with performance in mind.

In all this car, beautiful specimen is a work of Acura art as visualised by a master craftsman.

Toda Exhaust DC5




Toda Exhaust System RSX DC5

The TODA DC5 High Power Exhaust System is a fully engineered performance exhaust system.
During the course of development, various pipe diameters, muffler designs, and bends were tested,
until the final design was conceived. After receiving countless customer requests about which exhaust system is best when used in conjunction
with TODA K20A parts, their engineers evaluated and tested all available DC5 exhaust systems on the market.

After analyzing the results, the engineers decided to develop their own DC5 exhaust system.
The main design criteria for this system was maximum power output.

The system utilizes stainless steel piping with a true 60mm inner diameter (60mm ID) for maximum flow, and performance.

The gross weight of the muffler system is 12kg (26.4lbs), offering a substantial weight savings over the factory exhaust system.

The K-Series Programmable ECU (K-Pro) consists of a hardware modification to any K-Series ECU, plus Windows software which allows you to re-program the ECU and datalog sensors.

General Notes

* From previous ECU's Honda has changed from 2 dimensional tables (engine speed and engine load) to 3 dimensional tables (engine speed, engine load and cam angle). The K-Pro ECU retains these 3 dimensional tables to ensure the engine is running at optimum efficiency and power for every cam angle.
* The stock JDM and US O2 sensor is wide band and can read from 11.5:1 to 30:1 A/F ratios.
* Most OBDII features may be disabled for race vehicles.
* Error codes and the OBDII readiness status may be datalogged.
* Base tables are supplied for the RSX Type S, RSX Base, Civic SI and Integra Type R engines. These tables have been dyno tuned.
* No external programmer or other equipment is necessary. Just plug the ECU into a laptop via a USB cable.
* Tables may be map-traced in real time.
* The K-Pro ECU is not real-time updateable, however most changes to tables and settings can be uploaded in 1-2 seconds.
* The K-Pro ECU is a separate product from the s100/s200 line, and will not share the same options (e.g. 3 step) nor software (HondaLogger, RomEditor). All systems are fully programmable by the user. All K-Pro ECU systems include all features (e.g. boost, datalogging).

S300 hondata

The s300 is a plug in module to the factory Honda Engine Computer (ECU) which vastly expands the capabilities of the factory ECU. Forced induction, datalogging, real time updating of parameters, engine protection are but a few of the s300 features.

Note that there is a rectangular frame ECU version of the s300 and a square frame ECU version (JDM).

The s300 uses different connecting pins in the ECU from the s100/s200, and also has a slot cut in the side for the USB connector, so the ECU must be modified for use with the s300. The s300 is made to fit in a full frame ECU case (US and most markets), so will not fit in a JDM ECU case.

The s300 has datalogging to the SManager software built in via the USB port. Using a laptop the various ECU sensors can be datalogged, viewed, graphed and saved for later analysis.

Additionally the s300 has on board flash memory which allows a datalog recordings to be made without a laptop, for later access and download to a laptop. Multiple recordings can be made and stored in the s300 for a total of around 40 minutes of total datalogging time. An external switch can be used to start and stop recordings, or engine conditions can trigger recording. For instance in a drag race, the s300 can be set to start recording once the rpm is bought up to near launch rpm and automatically stop once past the traps and the rpm drops below a certain level.

k-series engine




























































The Honda K series
engine is a four-cylinder four-stroke engine. The K series engines are equipped with DOHC valvetrains and use roller rockers to reduce friction. The engines use a coil-on-plug, distributorless ignition system with a coil for each spark plug. This system eliminates the need for spark plug wires and distributor as well as the problems associated with them. It also allows the ECU to precisely control the ignition timing based on various sensor inputs. The cylinders have cast iron sleeves similar to the B-series engines, as opposed to the FRM cylinders found in the H-series.

Two versions of Honda's i-VTEC system can be found on K series engines; variable timing control (VTC) can be found on the intake cam of both versions. The VTEC system on engines like the K20A3 only operate on the intake cam; at low RPM only one intake valve is fully opened, the other opening just slightly to create a swirl effect in the combustion chamber for improved fuel atomization. At high RPM, both intake valves open fully to improve engine breathing. In engines such as the K20A2 found in the Acura RSX Type-S, the VTEC system operates on both the intake and exhaust valves, allowing both to benefit from multiple cam profiles.
